Did you know...

Early European explorers gave the plant its common name because the flower's complex structure and pattern reminded them of symbols associated with the passion of Christ. It was said that the flower contained the lashes received by Christ, the crown of thorns, the column, the five wounds and the three nails.

Description

Passion fruit has a brittle, wrinkled purple-brown rind enclosing flesh-covered seeds. The fruit is the size of an egg. The seeds are edible so you can eat the orange pulp straight from the shell.

Fruit Selection

Choose large, plump, heavy passion fruit. If the skin is not deeply wrinkled, keep the passion fruit at room temperature until it is. Mold on the shell can be wiped off without affecting the quality of the fruit. Avoid overly hard fruit.

Recommended Storage

Ripen at room temperature turning occasionally. Passion fruit can be refrigerated for up to a week.
